Job Title: Paralegal Asbestos Affidavit Preparer (Asbestos Law Firm Experience Required)
Job Responsibilities:
- Review Client Files: The role involves analyzing intake call summaries, employment records, union documents, and medical information to understand each client's asbestos exposure history. This requires a thorough examination of documents and records to piece together a comprehensive history of exposure.
- Conduct Client Interviews: The position requires speaking compassionately and professionally with clients or family members to clarify or expand on exposure details. This involves sensitive and sometimes emotional interactions, necessitating empathy and effective communication skills.
- Draft Exposure Affidavits: Responsibilities include writing compelling and legally sound asbestos exposure affidavits based on interviews, records, and known occupational exposures. This requires strong writing skills to create documents that meet legal standards and effectively convey the client's history.
- Tailor for Each Trust: An important aspect of the role is understanding variations in affidavit requirements among different asbestos bankruptcy trusts and drafting documents accordingly. This requires detailed knowledge of different trust requirements and the ability to customize affidavits to meet these needs.
- Collaborate with Legal Staff: The position involves working closely with attorneys, case managers, and medical records teams to gather information and revise drafts as needed. This requires strong collaboration and communication skills to ensure accuracy and completeness of affidavits.
- Meet Deadlines: The role requires prioritizing and managing multiple affidavits simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and empathy. This necessitates strong organizational skills and the ability to work efficiently under pressure.
Education and Experience Information:
- Experience working with lung cancer cases or asbestos-related personal injury claims is strongly preferred. This experience is crucial for understanding the nuances of asbestos exposure and its implications for clients.
- Strong writing and research skills are required, with the ability to transform technical and personal histories into clear legal documents. This ensures that affidavits are both legally sound and accessible to those reviewing them.
- Comfort conducting sensitive, sometimes emotional, interviews with clients and/or their families is necessary. This requires empathy and strong interpersonal skills to handle delicate situations effectively.
- Detail-oriented and highly organized with the ability to manage multiple cases. These skills are essential for handling the complexity and volume of affidavits required in this role.
- A legal, medical-legal, or claims-based background is a plus, providing additional expertise that can enhance the quality of affidavits.
- Prior experience with asbestos trust fund work is a major plus, offering valuable insight into the specific requirements and processes involved in securing compensation.
Salary Information:
