Job Title: Justice Court Assistant District Attorney Job Responsibilities: Local Criminal Court Assistant District Attorneys (ADAs) are responsible for handling felony arraignments and misdemeanor cases within the municipal jurisdictions to which they are assigned. Their duties include: - Managing all phases of misdemeanor and selected violation prosecutions, which encompass arraignment, calendar appearances, motion practice, witness preparation, legal research, pre-trial hearings, and trials. - Occasionally participating in investigations and advising law enforcement personnel on legal questions or issues. - Reporting to the Executive ADA and developing professional working relationships with law enforcement, judges, court personnel, and the local defense bar. - Being assigned to other cases or projects at the discretion of the District Attorney or managing attorneys. - Adhering to the highest ethical standards in both professional and personal conduct. Education and Experience Information: - Must be a Juris Doctor (.) graduate from an accredited United States Law School. - Must be licensed in the State of New York or awaiting results from the New York State bar exam, with results expected within three months or less. - Residency in Ulster County will be required within a reasonable length of time. - Excellent writing and research skills are necessary. - Prior defense or prosecutorial experience, proficiency in a second language, or other relevant experience are advantageous but not required. - All applicants undergo a security clearance. Writing samples, references, and other requirements may be necessary if the office expresses interest in an interview. Salary Information: - The starting salary is $85,000. - Ulster County provides excellent medical, dental, and vision benefits to its employees. - Vacation and sick time are offered based upon time in service. - Employees are enrolled in the New York State retirement system and may participate in other benefits, including Deferred Compensation.
