Job Title: Legal Assistant
Job Responsibilities:
The role of the Legal Assistant is to provide comprehensive support to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Texas (USAO NDTX) in Dallas, TX. The position involves enabling litigation teams to effectively manage electronic discovery, digital evidence, and courtroom technology in support of complex criminal prosecutions. The responsibilities are divided into four main areas:
I. Litigation Support
- Deliver consulting services to litigation teams for early case assessment, electronically stored information (ESI) collection, processing, review, analysis, and production.
- Advise teams on the use of Technology Assisted Review (TAR) tools and discovery compliance related to litigation and trial preparation.
- Assist the Litigation Technology Unit (LTU) with document analysis, data management, and litigation support strategies.
- Support setup and training on IPRO Trial Director and similar tools for courtroom evidence presentation.
II. ESI Management
- Perform analysis and processing of ESI in support of litigation activities.
- Execute hands-on file manipulation, loading, and conversion of legal data.
- Coordinate with client agencies to ensure ESI is collected, reviewed, preserved, and provided accurately.
- Review ESI for data integrity, completeness, and corruption, and apply corrective actions as needed.
- Ensure timely preparation and disclosure of ESI to opposing parties.
III. Case Data Management
- Organize case information using scanning, indexing, and database control for automated retrieval.
- Input and structure files into litigation platforms (., Relativity, IPRO Eclipse SE, and LexisNexis CaseMap).
- Build searchable PDF portfolios from discovery materials using Adobe software.
- Duplicate and migrate native email files (with metadata) into eDiscovery platforms for analysis.
- Transfer ESI between eDiscovery systems to support review and accessibility.
IV. Litigation Technology
- Operate eDiscovery and litigation support tools (., NUIX, Cloud Nine Law PreDiscovery, IPRO eScanIt, LexisNexis TimeMap, and similar software).
- Generate logs, reports, and data summaries using litigation support platforms (., Relativity, Eclipse SE, CaseMap, TimeMap).
- Develop hosted web-based portals for eDiscovery review in coordination with case teams.
- Conduct document searches using advanced artificial intelligence (AI) tools.
Education and Experience Information:
Required Knowledge & Skills:
- Knowledge of information resources and file types.
- Knowledge of the litigation lifecycle and electronic discovery/document review processes, procedures, and practices.
- Ability to deliver high-quality work under extreme pressure and tight deadlines.
- Strong analytical capabilities.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Required Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in litigation support, electronic discovery, and/or technology support within a Government, law firm, or eDiscovery vendor.
- Experience with eDiscovery technical processes (., compiling, analyzing, and synthesizing information).
- Experience performing Administrator and Case Manager functions in Relativity.
- Experience providing end-user support on Litigation Support applications.
- Experience assisting with end-user training.
- Experience using Relativity, Nuix, Concordance, IPRO Eclipse, Cloud Nine Law, Beyond Compare, or other applicable eDiscovery platforms.
Required Education:
- Bachelor’s degree or three additional years of directly relevant work experience in lieu of the degree.

Other Considerations: Applicants will be subject to a background investigation. The primary workstation is located in an office area with a low to moderate noise level. The position requires sitting for extended periods, moving about to access file cabinets, and using office equipment such as a PC, copier, fax, and telephone. Occasionally, the role requires reaching overhead, bending, and lifting objects up to 10 lbs. Specific vision abilities required include the use of computer monitor screens up to 100% of the time.
