Job Title: In-House Tax Accountant

Job Responsibilities:
The In-House Tax Accountant is responsible for managing and overseeing all tax-related matters within the law firm. The role involves preparing tax workpapers for federal, state, and local tax filings, ensuring compliance with tax regulations, and identifying opportunities for tax savings. The accountant will maintain accurate records of all tax filings and prepare monthly calculations for partner distributions, capital requirements, and profit-sharing contributions. Other duties include preparing property tax returns and city/state returns, renewing state business license registrations, managing account reconciliations, and overseeing fixed assets and depreciation calculations.

The accountant will also analyze financial statements for tax implications, collaborate with other departments for reporting, assist with tax audits, and coordinate with external auditors. They will provide tax strategy guidance on entity structure, tax credits, and planning opportunities, and support tax-related issues in client matters. Additionally, they are expected to stay current on tax law changes and ensure accurate application to the firm’s practices.

Education and Experience Information:
The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, with an MBA or CPA preferred. Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of tax accounting experience, ideally within a law firm or professional services environment. Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws is necessary, along with experience in partnership taxation and preparation of K-1 schedules. The ability to interpret complex tax regulations and provide guidance to management is essential. Candidates should possess strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and be able to manage multiple priorities effectively. Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills are required.

Preferred qualifications include a CPA or similar certification, experience with law firm-specific accounting and tax practices, and knowledge of international tax laws. Strong Excel skills and experience with financial reporting tools are also beneficial.
