Job Responsibilities:
The Legal Secretary 1 role involves assisting legal staff in the preparation of legal documents and correspondence under direct supervision. The responsibilities include ensuring the delivery of legal correspondences to clients, witnesses, parties, and court officials. The role requires opening and closing case files, organizing and maintaining case files, documents, and reference materials. The legal secretary is responsible for preparing and processing legal documents and papers such as summonses, subpoenas, complaints, appeals, motions, and pretrial agreements. Additional duties involve retrieving, copying, and distributing files and documents, scheduling appointments, maintaining calendars, and managing telephone communications. The role involves typing and editing office memos, briefs, motions, and other legal documents from notes or dictation using standard office equipment. Other professional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
Education and Experience Information:
The minimum qualifications for the position require a high school diploma or GED and one year of experience in an office setting using computer software. Preferred qualifications include one year of work experience in a legal office environment using technology hardware and software applications typically used in a legal office environment. Additionally, two years of work experience in an office setting that involved the review of legal documents, such as contracts, and the use of technology hardware and software applications typically used in a legal office environment is preferred. One year of work experience as an administrative assistant (secretary) is also desirable.
Salary Information:
The salary for the Legal Secretary 1 position is $33, annually.
