Job Title: Accountant
Job Responsibilities:
The Accountant position at the law firm is integrated within the Paralegal Team, specifically supporting the Financial Services and Capital Markets business unit. The main duties involve a comprehensive range of estate administration tasks, assisting attorneys in estate management, funding post-death irrevocable trusts, document preparation, probate and estate-related tax return filings, and client case management. Key responsibilities include:
- Preparing various tax returns such as Estate Tax Returns and Fiduciary Income Tax Returns.
- Maintaining financial records of trusts, performing trust accounting, and auditing accounts.
- Maintaining General Ledger accounts, reconciling broker statements, and preparing payables and bank deposits.
- Obtaining and reconciling 1099 and K-1 statements.
- Handling irrevocable trust funding and administration post-death.
- Managing probate administration, including drafting probate pleadings.
- Providing expert accounting guidance and best practices to team members.
- Maintaining close contact with clients and financial advisors.
- Meeting an annual billable hour requirement of 1600 hours.
- Developing technical proficiency in database use and management, internet/electronic research, and project folder/electronic file maintenance.
- Organizing and managing files independently or delegating tasks to appropriate business professionals and supervising them.
- Sustaining attention to detail and quality of work.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Information:
The position requires a minimum of an Associate's degree, with a Bachelor's degree being preferred. A CPA designation is also preferred. Candidates should have:
- 10 or more years of experience in Trusts & Estates, which is preferred.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Proven success in a fast-paced, continually changing environment.
- Ability to prioritize and excellent time management skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Familiarity with tax and trust accounting software.
- Experience with document database programs and/or software.
- Significant client case management experience.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to interact effectively and professionally, providing exceptional service internally and externally.
- Highly organized, able to prioritize workflow, and manage projects.
- Ability to perform effectively with little or no supervision and within established time limits and ongoing deadlines.
