Job Title: Employment Discovery Clerk
Job Responsibilities:
- Discovery Management: The Employment Discovery Clerk will be responsible for propounding and responding to discovery requests, particularly within the realm of employment law cases. This role requires ensuring compliance with the Code of Civil Procedure.
- Drafting and Filing: The clerk will prepare, draft, and file letters, oppositions, replies, and other legal documents as part of the discovery process.
- Trial Support: The role includes assisting attorneys in the preparation of trial binders and exhibit binders, as well as providing support in trial preparation.
- Case Management: The clerk will coordinate and manage case files, track deadlines, and handle calendaring for litigation milestones.
- Communication with Clients: The clerk will work with clients to prepare discovery requests and responses, update them on case status, and perform similar tasks.
- Communication with Opposing Counsel: The clerk will correspond with opposing counsel regarding discovery, case status, and other litigation matters.
- Software Proficiency: The clerk will utilize Filevine software to manage case information, track discovery tasks, and maintain up-to-date records.
- Training: The clerk will train junior assistants, providing guidance on best practices in discovery and case management.
Education and Experience Information:
- Discovery Expertise: Candidates must have strong experience in drafting, propounding, and responding to discovery requests within employment law or other litigation cases.
- Experience: A minimum of 2 years of experience working in employment law or litigation is required, with a strong understanding of the California Code of Civil Procedure.
- Legal Writing: Experience in drafting legal letters, motions, oppositions, replies, and other documents for litigation is necessary.
- Trial Experience: Candidates should have experience in preparing trial binders and assisting with trial preparation.
- Case Management Experience: Solid organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple cases and tasks simultaneously are required.
- Team-Oriented: The ability to collaborate and train junior assistants, as well as work cohesively with attorneys and staff, is essential.
- Software Skills: Familiarity with Filevine or similar legal software for case management is preferred.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred to support diverse client needs and communicate effectively with all parties involved.
