Job Title: Tax Manager, SALT Indirect Tax Automation (ITA)

Job Responsibilities:

The primary responsibility of the Tax Manager, SALT Indirect Tax Automation, is to apply industry knowledge and experience to collaborate with clients in implementing indirect tax automation tools. These tools include, but are not limited to, Vertex O Series, Vertex Q Series, Vertex Indirect Tax Returns, OneSource Indirect Tax Determination, OneSource Compliance, Sovos (Taxware), and Avalara AvaTax. The role is client-facing and implementation-focused, requiring a strong understanding of indirect taxes such as Sales & Use, GST, and VAT. The Manager will design, build, and configure optimal tax system solutions for clients.

Key duties include:

Product Knowledge:
- Implementing tax technology tools with a working knowledge of leading indirect tax technology tools.
- Designing and implementing tax compliance systems such as Vertex Returns, OneSource Compliance, and Avalara.
- Applying knowledge of various tax filing requirements at state and local levels.
- Learning additional tools for client implementations and competitive knowledge.

Project Management:
- Serving as the Project Lead and Project Manager on third-party indirect tax software implementations and customized sales tax automation solutions.
- Managing system integration projects involving major ERP and billing systems like SAP, Oracle, PeopleSoft, JD Edwards, MS365/AX, NetSuite, etc.
- Leading system implementation and integration projects from end to end, including process design, software selection, implementation, user acceptance, training, and go-live and post-go-live phases.
- Delivering projects on time and within budget using project management and client service skills.
- Collaborating with clients to understand the bigger picture when developing and implementing projects.
- Reviewing complex client requirements to derive best-in-class design for the implementation of tax technology tools.
- Managing client expectations and communicating complex technical items clearly.
- Developing customized applications for various database platforms.
- Developing sales tax automation proposals.
- Conducting and participating in sales and proposal development meetings.
- Participating in various speaking engagements on behalf of the company.
- Developing thought leadership content for tax automation on behalf of the national Indirect Tax Automation Practice.

Strategy Development:
- Introducing and developing new or improved ideas that can provide operational value to clients.
- Identifying and leveraging lessons learned on prior projects and offering input on improving processes and methods.
- Suggesting marketing approaches for new ideas and creating written memos describing processes and steps to complete automation using implemented tools.

Other Duties:
- Supervising and training staff, as appropriate.

Education and Experience Information:

Education:
- Bachelor's Degree required, with a focus in Accounting, Information Systems, or Computer Science preferred.

Experience:
- Four or more years of work experience with demonstrated direct involvement in indirect tax system implementation projects required.
- Successful implementation of indirect tax systems such as Vertex, Thomson Reuters, Avalara, and Sovos required.

License/Certifications:
- Licensed CPA, EA, JD/ LLM, MTX, CMI, PMP preferred.
- Vertex, Thomson Reuters, Avalara, Sovos Indirect Tax System Certified Implementer preferred.

Software:
- Experience with indirect tax determination systems such as Vertex, OneSource, Sovos, or Avalara required.
- Experience with indirect tax compliance systems, such as Vertex Returns, OneSource Compliance, Avalara compliance preferred.
- Experience with Indirect Tax Exemption certificates modules, Vertex, OneSource, Avalara, Sovos preferred.
- Knowledge of Alteryx, Power BI, and RPA preferred.
- Strong knowledge of MS Excel, MS Access, MS PowerPoint preferred.

Other Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Solid verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong people skills, including training/instruction with professionals at all levels.
- Executive presence and the ability to be the primary contact for the client, prepare and conduct presentations to clients and potential clients.
- Strong client development/relationship-building skills.
- Sound decision-making skills.
- Ability to work within teams.
- Basic knowledge and skill level in engagement management, including preparation of budgets, project plans, engagement letters, billing and collection, etc.
- Ability to complete projects independently.
- Travel requirement 25-40%.

Salary Information:

Individual salaries offered to candidates are determined after consideration of numerous factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.

Salary Range:
- National Range: $79,800 - $168,000
- Maryland Range: $79,800 - $168,000
- NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $79,800 - $168,000
- Washington DC Range: $79,800 - $168,000
