Job Title: Legal Support Counsel
Job Responsibilities:
The Legal Support Counsel (LSC) plays a crucial role within the Litigation, Investigation, and Regulatory Enforcement Group at the company. The primary responsibilities of the LSC include managing legal matters where the company is not a named defendant. Key duties involve:
- Performing independently a variety of complex legal tasks related to litigation matters.
- Negotiating and responding to subpoenas, levies, garnishments, court orders, and wage deduction orders across multiple jurisdictions.
- Handling all aspects of litigation support, including negotiating the scope of requests, setting deadlines, collecting, organizing, and producing documents in response to discovery requests such as third-party subpoenas, and drafting written responses.
- Conducting independent legal research on specific issues.
- Reviewing documentation to determine deadlines and ensuring conformity with legal requirements.
- Communicating regularly with clients, government agencies, or officials to address questions related to service of process and general inquiries, and to collect and assemble information.
- Providing case management support, including monitoring case calendars, filing deadlines, and conducting paper and electronic docket searches.
- Possessing knowledge of state and federal court processes and e-filing procedures.
Education and Experience Information:
- Must have a valid license to practice law in Illinois.
- Experience with subpoena and discovery responses is essential, including document identification, collection, and production.
- Familiarity with legal holds, document management applications (such as Everlaw, Relativity, Concordance, Nebula), and secure electronic document sharing (such as FTP sites) is required.
- The role demands collaboration, confidence, insightfulness, strong written and oral communication skills, and being tech-savvy.
- Strong leadership, analytical abilities, and good judgment are necessary.
- Exceptional organizational skills are needed to work effectively and cooperatively with internal and external clients and staff, while coordinating business functions with other departments on numerous matters simultaneously.
- Professionalism and skill in working within a team environment and coordinating workloads are required.
- The ability to multi-task and consistently meet aggressive and time-sensitive deadlines is crucial.
Salary Information:
The salary range for the Legal Support Counsel position is between $99,600 and $169,200 USD. This range is a good faith estimate of base pay. The company offers a comprehensive benefits package, which includes retirement benefits (401k and pension), health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, spending accounts, and disability), paid time off, parental and caregiver leave, life and accident insurance, and other voluntary and well-being benefits.
