Job Title: Legal Assistant / Paralegal

Job Responsibilities:
The Legal Assistant / Paralegal at the law firm in Washington, DC, will support multiple attorneys by performing a variety of tasks essential to the legal process. Responsibilities include preparing memoranda for opening new matters and preparing and filing legal documents such as complaints, motions, subpoenas, and appeals. The role requires organizing and maintaining case files, discovery materials, and trial binders, as well as conducting legal research and assisting in drafting legal memoranda and reports. Managing attorney calendars, scheduling depositions, hearings, and meetings, and coordinating communication with clients, court personnel, witnesses, and opposing counsel are also crucial duties. The Legal Assistant / Paralegal will assist attorneys during trial preparation and proceedings, monitor deadlines, and ensure timely filings in accordance with court rules. Additional administrative duties include answering phones, managing correspondence, maintaining databases, making travel arrangements, maintaining time entry for billable hours, and creating/maintaining electronic directories. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

Education and Experience Information:
Candidates for the Legal Assistant / Paralegal position are preferred to have a Bachelor’s or associate degree in legal studies or a related field. The position requires a minimum of 3 years of experience as a Legal Assistant or Paralegal. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and legal document management systems is necessary, along with familiarity with court filing procedures, both state and federal. Strong organizational and time management skills, excellent written and verbal communication abilities, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively under pressure are essential.

Preferred Skills:
Experience with e-filing systems and legal research tools such as Westlaw and LexisNexis is preferred, as is experience with case management systems like ProLaw and iManage. Knowledge of legal terminology and litigation processes, high attention to detail, and the ability to multitask effectively are also desired.

Salary Information:
The salary range for the Legal Assistant / Paralegal position at the law firm is $25-$30 per hour, depending on experience. This pay range is a good faith estimate based on the hiring location, with criteria including skill level, education, and experience determining where a candidate falls within the range.
