Job Responsibilities:
Team Management:
- Lead and manage the Research and Knowledge Analysts, guiding them in setting individual goals and regularly providing feedback on performance.
- Prepare annual performance evaluations for team members.
- Supervise research processes to ensure quality and consistency of work produced.
- Manage the research request ticket queue, ensuring timely responses and appropriate prioritization of attorney needs.
- Communicate firm policies and expectations to Research and Knowledge Analysts.
- Organize meetings to facilitate research training for Research and Knowledge Analysts.
- Conduct formal research training sessions for attorneys and staff.
- Monitor activities of Research and Knowledge Analysts and deliver regular reports to the Senior Manager.
- Exemplify qualities and performance expected of firm employees, including punctuality, professionalism, high-quality work, and a customer-focused attitude.
- Stay current with developments in legal research methodologies and technologies.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and innovation within the research team.
Research:
- Provide research services for the firm’s attorneys and staff, including quick reference and detailed research on legal issues, litigation, and business information.
- Proficiently use Lexis, Westlaw, Bloomberg, and other electronic resources for research.
- Use resources in accordance with firm policies.
- Evaluate research results and create comprehensive research products, including executive summaries and reports.
- Assist users in selecting and utilizing electronic research tools, offering training on efficient research techniques.
- Monitor online databases and other resources for practice-specific information.
- Record billable and non-billable research accurately in the firm’s time entry system, conforming to firm policy.
- Engage in professional development through internal and external training and participation in professional associations.
Education and Experience Information:
- MLS or equivalent degree required.
- 7+ years of law firm library or equivalent experience.
- Proficient in all Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint.
- Expert user of legal research platforms such as Westlaw, Lexis, Bloomberg, Vital Law, S&P Capital IQ, HeinOnline, Hoovers, Lex Machina, Accurint, and TLO.
- Experience with Quest and Research Monitor preferred.
- Familiarity with legal technology and AI-assisted research tools.
