The candidate will provide daily legal advice and assistance on issues from employees, inmates, probationers, parolees, and the public. Handle phone and written requests for legal help, conduct research, and issue legal opinions. Represent the department and its officials in litigation before administrative tribunals and state and federal courts. Manage all aspects of representation, including reviewing evidence, drafting pleadings, conducting discovery, prepping witnesses, and representing the agency in hearings, trials, and appeals. Work within various sections of the Bureau, such as personnel, contracts, inmate litigation, and special projects. Offer legal advice on personnel issues, draft and review contracts, handle inmate grievances, and manage special legal projects as assigned. Represent the department in garnishment proceedings and provide legal advice on subpoenas, public records requests, and requests from the Capitol Collateral Regional Counsel. Take on responsibilities in these areas as needed. Coordinate with the General Counsel’s office to review legislative bills, draft rules, and handle complex and sensitive legal matters. Ensure compliance with legal standards and support the department's legal needs effectively. Must be a member of the Florida Bar in good standing with 2+ years of prior experience as an attorney.
