Job Title: Assistant Vice President, Claims Counsel, Healthcare
Job Responsibilities:
- Manage claims related to policies issued by the company's US Healthcare team, focusing on high-exposure claims.
- Provide legal review and policy drafting support to the Underwriting department.
- Evaluate exposures and make substantive claim decisions for US Healthcare claims and potentially other lines of business.
- Conduct coverage, liability, and damages analysis for complex healthcare claims, identifying trends and exposures that may impact the US Healthcare portfolio.
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting of exposure to underwriting and management, including the preparation and dissemination of narrative and arithmetic reports.
- Collaborate with the Global Claims Team, contributing to various projects as directed by management and the Executive Team. This may involve attending industry conferences, possibly as a speaker/presenter, publishing on current claim trends and issues, and assisting other offices with complex claims.
- Communicate with and support underwriting and other functional groups within the organization.
- Perform other duties as required by management.
- Some travel may be necessary.
Education and Experience Information:
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in handling claims involving Healthcare Liability claims with a career history of increasing responsibility.
- A law degree is required, with preference given to candidates who have experience at both a law firm and an insurance carrier. An adjuster's license is also required.
- Strong preference for candidates who have pursued or are in the process of pursuing an insurance-related designation, such as RPLU or CPCU.
- Demonstrated ability to establish close working relationships with other departments, including underwriting and actuarial.
- Strong negotiating, analytical, written, and organizational skills.
Salary Information:
- The salary range for this position is $135,000 to $195,000. Actual compensation will depend on several factors, including the cost of living associated with the work location, qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.
