Senior Legal Assistant / Paralegal
Job Responsibilities
The Senior Legal Assistant/Paralegal at the law firm is responsible for a comprehensive range of secretarial, administrative, and trial support tasks under the direct supervision of one or more attorneys. The key responsibilities include:
- Conducting legal and factual research and performing records research.
- Identifying relevant judicial decisions, statutes, legal articles, codes, and other pertinent material, as well as reviewing and monitoring new and updated regulations.
- Organizing and analyzing information, and cross-checking and validating information.
- Preparing written reports and drafting legal documents including briefs, appeals, contracts, legal agreements, and correspondence.
- Assisting in the preparation of legal arguments, applications, declarations, and motions.
- Checking legal forms and documents for accuracy.
- Maintaining reference files and organizing and tracking case files.
- Maintaining the law library.
- Coordinating law office activities such as subpoena deliveries.
- Locating and communicating with witnesses and interacting with clients.
- Assisting the lawyer in the courtroom.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Information
- A Bachelor’s degree, associate’s degree, or certificate program in paralegal studies is required.
- A minimum of three years of legal experience, ideally in malpractice defense, is preferred.
- An equivalent combination of education and/or experience will be considered.
The candidate should possess thorough knowledge of legal principles, legal research techniques, legal terminology, and government regulations. Excellent legal drafting, writing, and verbal communication skills are essential. The role requires excellent interpersonal skills, as well as analytical and critical thinking skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, is required. The ability to operate basic office equipment such as a copy machine, fax machine, printer, scanner, and computer is necessary. The candidate should be able to work with databases and online technological platforms.
The position demands a detail-oriented, diligent, and flexible individual who can handle conflicting time demands and focus on task completion with minimal direction or need for supervisory follow-up. A proficient command of the English language in both oral and written formats is required. The ability to work and maintain patience with diversified individuals of various backgrounds and professional competencies is important, as is the ability to maintain confidentiality in a professional manner.
Salary Information
The position offers a salary range of $38 - $48 per hour.
