Job Title: General Counsel, Trade Compliance
Job Responsibilities:
- Lead the global trade compliance team, ensuring adherence to import, export, and sanctions laws.
- Develop and implement trade compliance controls, policies, and procedures to support risk management and the compliant flow of goods and technology across borders.
- Manage and oversee trade procedures, including classifications (HTS and ECCN), country of origin determinations, and customs valuation.
- Stay updated on trade laws, regulations, designations, and related regulatory announcements, assessing and calibrating program responses, and communicating business impacts.
- Provide strategic business guidance and support to internal stakeholders on trade compliance matters, including transactional reviews, training, and awareness programs.
- Engage with regulatory authorities, support obtaining authorizations, and manage authorizations across all trade disciplines (import and customs, export (ITAR, EAR, NRC), and sanctions, as appropriate).
- Conduct internal audits and assessments to identify areas of risk and improvement, and implement corrective actions.
- Support investigations into trade compliance issues, including engagements with outside counsel as appropriate.
- Exercise strong leadership, collaboration, and execution skills with project teams, outside vendors, and consultants.
Education and Experience Information:
- A Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent is required.
- Must have 12+ years of experience in trade with substantive experience in import, export, and sanctions, and at least 8+ years of legal trade experience.
- Strong knowledge of export controls, import regulations, customs laws, and sanctions regulations is necessary.
- Experience leading and managing a compliance program or team in at least one of the three trade areas.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills are required, with the ability to interpret complex regulations and provide practical solutions.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively through excellent written and oral communication skills with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory authorities and agencies.
Salary Information:
- The annual base salary range for this position is $269,000 - $337,000. This salary information serves as a general guideline. Company considers various factors when extending an offer, including the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education and training, key skills, as well as market and business considerations.
- This position is incentive plan eligible.
Additional Information:
- This role can be based in Morris Plains, NJ or Washington DC.
- The position is intended to convey to the new, independent company, to be named Solstice Advanced Materials, when the separation occurs, expected in late 2025 or early 2026.
