Overview:
Pima County is currently seeking a Legal Secretary to join the **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***.. This position will serve all levels and assignments within the office and will be responsible for a variety of specialized legal secretarial tasks. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of legal procedures, documentation, and time constraints, and will make independent decisions regarding the processing of legal documents. This position offers a competitive salary and benefits package.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and gather legal documents, including briefs, opinions, complaints, warrants, and affidavits, ensuring legal requirements and deadlines are met
- Review new cases and schedule interviews between clients, law enforcement, and attorneys
- Transcribe from electronic dictation and prepare legal reports, correspondence, and forms
- Maintain calendars and deadlines for hearings, trials, and depositions
- Compile statistical data and prepare reports as directed
- Prepare motions for continuance, suspension, or dismissal through the court system
- Coordinate work activities with trial teams and divisions
- Act as a liaison for attorneys and paralegals regarding case preparation and discovery
- Communicate with clients and witnesses to obtain or verify legal information
- File and index legal documents and proofread for accuracy
- Operate office equipment and maintain confidentiality and security of information
Qualifications:
- Associate's degree or certificate in legal secretary studies
- One year of legal clerical experience or coursework in legal terminology or office procedures
- Two years of legal clerical experience if no education
- Strong knowledge of legal office practices and procedures, legal terminology, and time constraints
- Ability to type legal forms and correspondence, file documents, and operate computer software and office equipment
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
- Knowledge of management principles and practices is preferred
- Must be able to pass online assessments
