Tax Manager, Core Tax Services
The Tax Manager, Core Tax Services position is responsible for advising clients on tax implications, evaluating and selecting alternative actions to lessen tax burden and cost of compliance, and identifying different methods of complying with tax regulations. This role requires strong knowledge in tax policies and regulations, as well as excellent communication and analytical skills. As a Tax Manager, you will be responsible for managing client relationships and providing written tax advice. This position also involves marketing, networking, and business development within a specific area of expertise.
H1: Tax Manager, Core Tax Services - Advise Clients on Tax Implications
The Tax Manager, Core Tax Services is a crucial role within the company, responsible for advising clients on the tax implications of their business objectives. This includes evaluating and selecting alternative actions to lessen tax burden and cost of compliance, as well as identifying different methods of complying with tax regulations. The Manager is also responsible for acting as the primary client contact for complex tax issues and applying knowledge to understand potential tax issues and communicate potential risks and changes in tax policy.
H2: Responsibilities of a Tax Manager
As a Tax Manager, you will have a range of responsibilities including:
- Advising clients on tax implications and providing written tax advice
- Ensuring clients and self-comply with all applicable authorities and minimizing tax and reporting burdens
- Conducting top-level review of tax issues with clients and involving specialists where appropriate
- Planning and reviewing the tax process and procedures to be performed, including budgeting and staffing, monitoring engagement process and actual time incurred vs. budget, timely billing and collection of A/R
- Managing client relationships and expectations
- Identifying when research is needed and clearly and concisely reporting the analysis
- Applying Firm and professional standards for preparation of tax returns and involving firm specialists as needed
- Correctly and proactively applying Firm policies and standards regarding FAS 109 and FIN 48
- Communicating with Assurance counterparts to plan timely tax accrual reviews
- Assisting with developing, recommending, and implementing efficient and effective methods to maximize client benefits
- Developing an in-depth understanding of technical and practical issues and opportunities in one or more areas of taxation
- Introducing and developing new or improved ideas to improve client and Firm position
- Supervising associates and senior associates, reviewing their work and providing feedback
- Training associates and seniors on current software tools
- Acting as a career advisor to associates and senior associates
- Scheduling and managing workload of associates and senior associates
- Providing verbal and written performance feedback to associates and senior associates
H2: Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics (Master's degree preferred)
- Five or more years of prior relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting, or consulting/professional services experience
- Prior supervisory experience
- Industry expertise in one or more tax specialties preferred
- CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a . jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (EA) required
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite preferred
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to effectively delegate work and manage a team
- Strong analytical, research, and critical thinking skills
- Capacity to work well in a team environment
- Ability to effectively develop and maintain client relationships
- Executive presence and ability to act as primary client contact
H2: Salary Information
Individual salaries offered to candidates are determined after consideration of numerous factors, including qualifications, experience, skills, and location. The following ranges are provided for reference:
- California: $112,000-$150,000
- Colorado: $105,000-$120,000
- Illinois: $105,000-$130,000
- Maryland: $111,000-$122,000
- Minnesota: $90,000-$120,000
- NYC/Long Island/Westchester: $120,000-$150,000
- Washington: $107,400-$126,900
- Washington DC: $123,000-$139,000
