Job Title: Employee Benefits Associate – Mid to Senior Level
Job Responsibilities:
The Employee Benefits Associate at the mid to senior level will join the national Employee Benefits law practice at the law firm. This position is ideal for a confident and self-motivated attorney who can handle matters independently and build a practice in a collegial environment. The key responsibilities include:
- Providing legal counsel on private, tax-exempt, and public (governmental) retirement plans, including 401(k), 403(b), 457(b), and defined benefit plans.
- Offering support for Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) related benefits.
- Advising on 409A and executive compensation matters.
- Consulting on health and welfare plans and specific health plan laws such as ACA, COBRA, and HIPAA.
- Engaging in ERISA litigation.
The role requires excellent client relationship skills, practical insight, creativity, and a self-starter mindset. The ability to deliver high-quality client service with empathy for clients’ work and personal pressures, business objectives, and legal needs is essential.
Education and Experience:
Candidates must have a minimum of five years of experience in the relevant areas mentioned above. Law firm experience is preferred, along with excellent writing and oral advocacy skills. The candidate should demonstrate a commitment to client service and possess the ability to anticipate client needs effectively.
Salary Information:
The annualized salary range for this position in Washington, California, and New York is between $225,000 and $330,000. Actual pay will be adjusted based on the candidate’s education, training, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law. Full-time employees may be eligible for a bonus and comprehensive benefits, including health insurance with an optional Health Savings Account (HSA), short-term and long-term disability insurance, dental and vision care, life insurance, and Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts. The position also offers a 401(k) plan, vacation, sick time, 10 paid holidays each year, and an employee assistance program. For full-time employees, the initial sick leave benefit is 80 hours per year, and attorneys typically take approximately three weeks of vacation annually, although this may vary based on client and firm needs. Additional voluntary benefits programs include voluntary accident insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, long-term care, critical illness and cancer insurance, and pet insurance. Commuter and transit programs are also available.
