Job Summary
The law firm is seeking a highly motivated Senior Defensive Immigration Paralegal to join its team. As a full-service immigration firm, the law firm represents clients before immigration offices and courts throughout the country and consular posts worldwide. Senior Immigration Paralegals are responsible for working on a variety of cases, interviewing clients, managing the client database, providing interpretation support, completing applications, researching country conditions, assisting in drafting briefs, and jointly supervising a roster of contractor legal aids alongside other senior paralegals. Successful candidates will be bilingual (English/Spanish), and demonstrate the ability to work independently and collaboratively. The role requires effective self-starters who meet deadlines, possess great attention to detail, and exhibit strong organizational skills. Job Responsibilities
- Assist attorneys in preparing and filing affirmative immigration applications for clients seeking legal status in the US
- Collect supporting evidence and conduct country conditions research to support clients’ cases
- Complete affidavits with clients and any witnesses
- Assist in preparing simple and/or complex motions
- Prepare the exhibits list along with the exhibit packet for individual hearings
- Interpret cases as needed, such as for client’s individual hearing preparation
- Maintain and update case-management database
- Maintain direct client contact through phone calls and emails
- Schedule appointments for hearings, manage calendar, and deadlines
- Work with the Legal Assistant Team to ensure filings arrive at the proper location
- Develop effective working relationships and communicate with attorneys, staff, and clients
Education and Experience Information
Basic Qualifications:
- Fluency in Spanish (reading, writing, speaking)
- High School Diploma/GED
- Minimum of 2 years of work experience in immigration law (for Senior Paralegal)
- Knowledge of Immigration Court Procedures
- Ability to handle a high volume of work independently and in teams
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication skills
- Detail-oriented and highly organized
- Enthusiasm to learn and take on new challenges
- Excellent customer service skills
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience using AdobePro, Docketwise, Salesforce, SharePoint, and Zoom
- Bachelor’s/Associate degree with paralegal studies (ABA approved)
Salary Information
The position offers a base pay range of to per hour, as estimated by the employer. The median salary is approximately per hour.
