Job Title: Staff Attorney

Job Responsibilities:
The Staff Attorney at the organization is responsible for effectuating the mission of providing holistic and zealous representation for children in various legal proceedings. Under the leadership of the Borough Director, the attorney ensures that high standards of representation and client services are maintained. Key responsibilities include:

- Conducting client and individual interviews
- Handling court appearances
- Subpoenaing or obtaining necessary documentation for case preparation
- Maintaining comprehensive and organized case files in the case management system
- Regularly handling intake and preparing cases for conference, negotiation, or trial
- Analyzing legal issues, developing legal strategy, and facilitating implementation
- Evaluating case strengths and weaknesses
- Exploring litigation alternatives and negotiating the best resolutions for clients
- Collaborating with writing, social work, paralegal, and client services teams
- Communicating with the court, opposing counsel, and others as necessary
- Maintaining ethical standards of practice
- Responding to client, community, and staff concerns appropriately
- Attending training sessions pertinent to practice
- Performing other duties as requested

Education and Experience Information:
Candidates must be admitted to practice law in New York State. The role requires demonstrated skills in advocacy, cultural competence, mediation, and interviewing, along with a commitment to public interest and policy. Preference is given to those with knowledge of family court, custody, domestic violence, and child welfare. Experience in teaming with colleagues to find solutions to complex situations is essential. Effective communication skills, time management, and organizational skills are critical, as well as the ability to work independently with excellent judgment, diplomacy, and professionalism. The candidate should be capable of prioritizing requests, managing multiple tasks simultaneously, and meeting deadlines. Discretion in handling confidential and sensitive information is necessary, along with a desire to work in a busy organization representing children.

Salary Information:
The expected salary range for this position is between $76,500 and $128,520 annually. Salary offers are based on the number of years employed in a legal position, including work analogous to the practice of law, in accordance with the organization's Collective Bargaining Agreement.
