Job Title: Staff Attorney - Writing and Appeals

Job Responsibilities:
The Staff Attorney - Writing and Appeals is a full-time position with an initial term of six months, starting in mid to late July, with the possibility of extension depending on funding. The attorney will work under the supervision of the Director of Appeals, Writing, and Paralegal Support. The primary responsibilities include:

- Preparing motions, affirmations, summations, appellate briefs, and other litigation documents for submission in Family Courts and the Integrated Domestic Violence Parts of the Supreme Court.
- Conducting extensive legal research and reviewing files and records to produce persuasive legal documents.
- Collaborating with trial attorneys, social workers, and paralegals in the preparation of legal documents.
- Appearing for oral arguments and conferences in the Appellate Divisions of the First and Second Departments, and when necessary, in Family Court.
- Performing other duties as required.

Education and Experience Information:
- The candidate must be admitted to practice law in New York State.
- One year of relevant legal experience is preferred.
- Knowledge of Family Court and family law is preferred but not required.

- Excellent legal writing skills, with the ability to write clear and concise fact statements and legal arguments.
- Ability to synthesize large volumes of material, address complex issues, and pay attention to both big picture themes and detailed specifics.
- Excellent legal research skills.
- Openness to and ability to learn from editing.
- Ability to proofread carefully.
- Ability to work well both collaboratively and independently.
- Ability to handle and prioritize multiple assignments while working under pressure.
- Excellent oral advocacy skills.

Salary Information:
The expected salary range for this position is from $65,790 to $128,520 annually. Salary offers are based on the number of years employed in a legal position, including work analogous to the practice of law, as per the CLC Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Additional Information:
