Job Title: Sr. Claims Attorney
Job Responsibilities:
The Sr. Claims Attorney at the company is responsible for delivering superior claim results through the application of best practices in managing high exposure and complexity claims, such as professional liability, sexual abuse, and high-exposure personal injury claims. Key responsibilities include:
- Investigating assigned claims by applying defined best practices and developing information on reported claims, including specific facts of the case, nature and extent of injury, standard of care, and causation defenses.
- Evaluating information obtained through claim investigations and estimating damage ranges for early identification of claims with potential excess exposure; applying ongoing triage rules to determine proper severity and assignment levels.
- Directly managing and actively intervening on the most technically complex and high-severity claims within the company's inventory.
- Timely recognizing and evaluating claim exposures to establish accurate case reserves.
- Executing effective claim adjudication strategies/tactics to achieve optimal outcomes on exposures within and in excess of account retentions.
- Cultivating strong business relationships with key personnel within current accounts, the brokerage community, and law firms across the country.
- Maintaining effective working relationships with Underwriting, Risk Management, and Actuarial partners.
- Aiding in the development and modification of claim management practices, policies, and procedures to foster a culture of continuous process improvement.
- Assisting Underwriting and Actuarial in risk selection and pricing accuracy through claim due diligence for new and renewal business.
- Utilizing customer service skills with client contacts to advance business opportunities, identifying service needs for claim, risk management, and data mining strategy, understanding renewal strategy, and extending discussions with clients beyond claim transactions.
- Developing or assisting with the development of claims marketing content and utilizing content for marketing purposes.
- Serving as a mentor for claims associates and claims specialists by providing technical advice.
- Working with other departments on special projects or assignments.
- Maintaining all State licensing requirements.
Education and Experience Information:
- The position requires 15 years of related experience handling claims.
- Experience servicing professional liability and high-exposure bodily injury lawsuits is preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of legal terminology and concepts is necessary.
- In-depth understanding of industry best practices for adjudicating claims is required.
- Proficiency with insurance contract interpretation and coverage issues is essential.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications is required.
- Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time is expected.
- Occasional evening and weekend work is required.
- A Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university is required, and a . is preferred.
Salary Information:
The company offers a competitive compensation plan and robust benefits package for full-time regular employees, including:
- Base Salary Range: $145,000 - $175,000
- Eligibility to participate in an annual discretionary bonus
