Job Title: Paralegal
Job Responsibilities:
The Paralegal position at the law firm involves critical support functions within the firm's litigation support team, particularly focusing on insurance defense and civil litigation. The position requires individuals who are proactive, organized, and capable of managing multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced and high-autonomy environment. The responsibilities vary depending on the level of experience and expertise:
Level 1 Paralegal:
- Assist with drafting discovery responses and conducting basic legal research.
- Perform online case and fact investigation tasks.
- Proofread, format, and finalize legal documents.
- Prepare exhibits and track case deadlines.
- Coordinate with clients, team members, vendors, and opposing counsel.
- Support senior paralegals and attorneys with subpoena preparation.
Level 2 Paralegal:
- Fulfill all duties of a Level 1 Paralegal.
- Manage more complex discovery tasks.
- Draft detailed reports and handle subpoenas with minimal supervision.
Level 3 Paralegal:
- Assume significant case management responsibilities.
- Train junior staff.
- Oversee complex legal matters, approaching the responsibilities of a junior attorney.
Education and Experience Information:
The law firm is seeking candidates with varying levels of experience, with clearly defined expectations and compensation aligned to each level:
Level 1 Paralegal:
- 1-3 years of experience in a legal setting.
- Strong skills in Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft 365, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and SharePoint.
- Familiarity with legal file structures and good timekeeping habits.
Level 2 Paralegal:
- 5+ years of experience in a legal setting, with a focus on insurance defense.
- Lexis research skills for statutory and case law.
- Working understanding of applicable Rules of Civil Procedure.
- Familiarity with and strong case management instincts.
Level 3 Paralegal:
- Extensive experience in insurance defense.
- Potentially holds a paralegal certification.
- Strong knowledge of applicable Rules of Civil Procedure.
Salary Information:
The compensation for the Paralegal position is structured based on the level of experience and expertise:
Level 1 Paralegal:
- Compensation ranges from $45,000 to $55,000 annually.
- Billable requirement of 1750 hours billed and collected annually.
Level 2 Paralegal:
- Compensation ranges from $55,000 to $70,000 annually.
- Billable requirement of 1850 hours billed and collected annually.
Level 3 Paralegal:
- Compensation ranges from $70,000 to $90,000+ annually.
