Job Title: Senior Datacenter and Cloud Engineer
Job Responsibilities:
The Senior Datacenter and Cloud Engineer is entrusted with the pivotal role of managing the law firm's datacenters and local office server rooms. As a technical expert, the engineer executes server infrastructure projects with precision and efficiency. Key responsibilities encompass:
- Analyzing system performance to modify parameters for optimized throughput and resource utilization.
- Monitoring resource usage and making necessary adjustments.
- Participating in on-call production support activities.
- Collaborating with the Architecture and Engineering group and the Network Engineering group to provision complex infrastructure designs, including the design, implementation, and support of VMware server infrastructure.
- Monitoring, maintaining, and ensuring the regular execution of backup routines by responding to system alerts and maintaining data replication between datacenters and disaster recovery (DR) locations.
- Engaging in the planning, testing, and execution of disaster recovery/business continuity (DR/BC) procedures, including failover and failback between datacenters and across the firm's network.
- Proactively creating and implementing procedures to prevent and mitigate the severity of outages and implementing automation where feasible.
- Implementing required hardware and/or software for all tier and affinity infrastructure.
- Managing all aspects of the datacenter network, including racking, cabling, and power related to the infrastructure, and handling services from providers such as co-location management and carrier services.
- Maintaining the integrity of servers (physical and virtual), storage systems, network and security devices, and overall network infrastructure for the business unit through active monitoring, troubleshooting, and regular monthly systems patching and upgrades.
- Identifying problem areas proactively and developing solutions to address challenges in the datacenter environment.
- Troubleshooting and managing issues across the datacenter and cloud systems.
- Analyzing business needs and the external environment to develop, scope, and enable the implementation of enterprise infrastructure.
- Communicating ideas effectively through presentations, reports, and documentation.
- Working with stakeholders, management, and subject matter experts to develop and implement technology strategies.
- Collaborating with technology leadership to develop and maintain a roadmap for assigned areas.
- Coordinating with and participating in vendor-related activities as required.
- Providing clear and grammatically correct documentation, emails, procedures, and status updates, both verbally and in writing.
- Complying with all department policies, standards, and procedures.
- Participating in change control and change management processes.
- Responding to administrative requests and responsibilities promptly.
- Performing all other duties as assigned or required.
Education and Experience Information:
Required:
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, iManage, and other firm applications after orientation.
- Willingness to work extended and/or weekend hours as required.
- Ability to travel as required.
- Over six years of direct applicable experience, including system administration with advanced systems engineering.
- Expertise in enterprise architecture for both collocated and cloud datacenters.
- Experience with Hyperscalers, specifically Azure and AWS.
- Proficiency with VMware and other enterprise hypervisors.
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related discipline.
- Current certifications in AWS, Azure, or VMware.
- Experience working in a law firm or professional services environment.
- Familiarity with NetApp storage and enterprise storage protocols, including CIFS, NFS, iSCSI, and FC.
- Experience with backup software such as Cohesity or Veeam and AWS Backup.
- Experience with enterprise server technology, specifically Cisco UCS.
- Scripting proficiency with PowerShell and/or Python.
- Knowledge of enterprise backup technologies and enterprise DR methodologies and technologies.
- Experience with DevOps technologies and methods.
Salary Information:
The expected annual pay range for this full-time position is $125,000 to $190,000. The final offer amount will depend on the geographic location, applicable experience, and skillset of the candidate.
