Job Title: E-Discovery Technology Project Manager
Job Responsibilities:
The E-Discovery Technology Project Manager is a vital role within the Information Services department at a law firm. The individual in this position is responsible for managing the entire lifecycle of a case, from data collection through final review and production, ensuring successful outcomes by developing and adhering to effective workflows. Key responsibilities include:
- Collaborating closely with legal teams to develop and maintain effective data handling strategies.
- Building, maintaining, and troubleshooting complex E-Discovery databases, including data culling and analysis.
- Employing Early Case Assessment and Advanced Analytics when appropriate.
- Overseeing the loading and updating of data, images, and native files for legal team review.
- Managing large, diverse collections of emails, images, and native files in combination with database management.
- Emphasizing quality control of all work, including data from vendors and third parties.
- Providing application support within the department and to legal teams, assisting users with problems and guiding them through processes.
- Training attorneys and paralegals in the effective use of E-Discovery Technology software.
- Handling frequent document production, including pre- and post-production activities and managing Chain of Custody.
- Possessing expertise in electronic discovery and paper document handling functions.
- Maintaining frequent and effective communication with legal teams and vendors.
- Mastering the use of all E-Discovery Technology tools within the firm.
- Collaborating with other department personnel while also being able to work independently.
- Partnering with Project Teams Manager and other Project Managers, providing work to the group’s Specialists and Analysts.
- Being available during off-hours as needed, maintaining flexibility.
- Strictly maintaining confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
- Managing complete case activity involving Electronic Discovery, case data management, document retention, production, and resource use.
- Developing strategies for efficient handling of discovery and production data.
- Building and maintaining datasets using state-of-the-art document processing and review tools.
- Tracking all case-related activity using project management tools and electronic tracking forms.
- Assisting legal teams in analyzing and presenting data trends and patterns using Early Case Assessment and Advanced Analytics.
- Advising legal teams on proper methods of data collection, preservation, processing, production, and retention.
- Overseeing work performed by Specialists and Analysts, providing hands-on processing when necessary.
- Observing E-Discovery Technology conventions and Best Practices, such as deduplication and data culling.
- Maintaining back-end server and folder structure of databases.
- Assisting with identification and archiving of old case data.
- Participating in document production processing, from initial communication to final deliverables.
- Performing stringent quality control checks of data and load files.
- Providing training, application support, and troubleshooting assistance to users.
- Maintaining tracking logs for data received and loaded, keeping inventory of data media.
- Assisting legal team requests including web site capturing, and audio and video editing.
- Collaborating with E-Discovery Technology team members and working independently.
- Assisting with trial support and liaising with trial presentation vendors.
- Providing written and verbal advice and best practices to legal teams and vendors.
- Writing clear directions and summaries for legal teams, providing timely status updates.
- Assisting with testing existing and new software and participating in vendor demonstrations.
- Recording daily time worked.
- Pursuing additional education and training in relevant E-Discovery Technology topics.
- Strictly maintaining confidentiality of all matters involved.
Education and Experience Information:
Education:
- A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a senior-level E-Discovery Technology or Litigation Support role is required.
Experience:
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant E-Discovery Technology or Litigation Support experience is required, preferably in a law firm, but vendor experience is also considered.
- A sound appreciation of law firm culture and legal team demands is necessary.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Relativity Certified Administrator (RCA) certification is highly desirable.
- Understanding of the full EDRM lifecycle, both electronic and paper discovery, and production, as well as E-Discovery Technology best practices is required.
- Considerable hands-on experience with E-Discovery Technology processing software, review platforms, load file creation, handling, and manipulation, and repository administration is needed.
- Strong hands-on experience with kCura Relativity, Nuix, LexisNexis Concordance and LAW PreDiscovery, Thomson Reuters West Case Notebook, Sanction or Trial Director, and Microsoft Office is essential.
- Familiarity with managed services or online hosting environments is desirable.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
- Ability to train both one-on-one and small groups and in preparing training materials.
- Maintains strong attention to detail and quality control, even under pressure.
- Flexibility of schedule with some off-hour availability is important.
- Experience with advanced technologies such as Early Case Assessment, Advanced Analytics, Predictive Coding, Concept Clustering, and other emerging technologies is a plus.
- Understanding of database searchability and methodology and comprehends all issues surrounding OCR and extracted text, near native review, email threading, and text encoding is anticipated.
- Comprehensive understanding of imaging technologies is expected.
Salary Information:
The salary range for this position applies to various locations including Atlantic City, Chicago, Denver, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Morristown, New York, Princeton, San Francisco, Seattle, and Washington, . The salary range reflects various factors considered in making compensation decisions, including experience, education, licensure and/or certifications, geographic location, market demands, and other business and organizational needs. The salary range for this position is $135,000 to $155,000.
