Internship - Special Projects Unit - Spring 2026
Job Responsibilities
Interns in the Special Projects Unit will be engaged in various activities related to post-conviction case investigations. Their core responsibilities include:
- Reviewing case files and court dockets
- Assisting attorneys in preparation for an evidentiary hearing relating to forensic testing at the closed Hinton Drug Lab
- Researching state and federal constitutional issues related to post-conviction litigation
- Participating in the preparation of arguments for appellate courts
- Fielding questions from attorneys and others concerning SPU litigation
- Observing motions and arguments in appellate courts and hearings and trials in trial courts
- Participating in trainings focused on the Massachusetts criminal court system and appellate practice
Education and Experience Information
Interns must be enrolled in law school and have completed their first year by the start of the internship. Preferred qualifications include:
- Completion of classes in evidence, criminal law, criminal procedure, constitutional law, critical legal theory, and/or trial advocacy
- Experience working with low-income clients, people of color, immigrants, LGBT people, and other underrepresented groups
- Proficiency in a foreign language
Salary Information
The internship is unpaid.
