Job Title: Agency Attorney 01

Job Responsibilities:
The Agency Attorney 01 position within the organization involves handling complex legal matters primarily in the Housing Litigation's Landlord and Tenant Division. The main responsibilities include:

- Representing the organization in various legal proceedings, including non-payment, holdover, Section 8, lockout, repair, and commercial cases in Housing Court.
- Engaging in approximately 50,000 court appearances in Civil Court-Housing Part.
- Representing the organization as a creditor in Federal Bankruptcy Court.
- Negotiating, drafting, and appearing before a judge for stipulations of settlement in non-payment, holdover, and repair cases.
- Researching and preparing cases for trial, arguing before a Housing Court Judge, and determining legal strategies.
- Handling illegal lockout hearings, contempt, multiple petitioner, and commercial cases.
- Preparing legal documents such as briefs, motions, legal opinions, affidavits, and memoranda.
- Defending the organization in repair cases initiated by residents, negotiating settlements, arguing motions, and possibly proceeding to trial.
- Coordinating with Skilled Trades and Technical Services to ensure timely repairs.
- Representing the organization as a Judgment Creditor in Bankruptcy Court and ensuring rent collection through appropriate motions.
- Performing other related duties as required.
- Maintaining confidentiality regarding all organization proceedings.

Education and Experience Information:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Admission to the New York State Bar.
- One year of satisfactory United States legal experience after admission to any state bar, or six months of satisfactory service as an Agency Attorney Interne.
- Must remain a member of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of employment.

Additional Requirements for Assignment Levels:
- For Assignment Level II: One year of experience at Assignment Level I or two years of comparable legal experience after bar admission in related legal areas.
- For Assignment Level III: Two years of experience in Assignment Levels I and/or II or three years of comparable legal experience after bar admission in related legal areas.

Preferred Skills:
- Strong legal analysis, writing, and research skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to define and address factual and legal issues clearly and concisely, both in writing and orally.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure.
- Familiarity with housing laws and regulations, particularly public housing, Section 8, and affordable housing.
- Knowledge of multifamily housing management, building systems maintenance, and construction law.
- Understanding of privacy, confidentiality, environmental law, and regulations.
- Background or experience in administrative law, policy, or legislation.
- Ability to devise creative solutions to accomplish agency objectives.

Salary Information:
The salary range for the Agency Attorney 01 position is $81, to $95,.
