Job Title: Tax Senior Manager, Core Tax Services
Job Responsibilities:
The Core Tax Services Senior Manager is tasked with advising clients on the tax implications of their business objectives and evaluating alternative actions to minimize tax burdens and compliance costs. This role involves acting as the primary client contact for complex tax issues and applying knowledge to understand potential tax issues, recognize, and communicate potential risks and changes in tax policy. The Senior Manager is responsible for making top-level decisions regarding filing, preparation, and resolution of questions from federal and state agencies. Additionally, the role involves participating actively in marketing, networking, and business development within an area of expertise and specialization while maintaining client relationships.
Key duties include:
- Tax Compliance: Ensure clients comply with applicable authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens, and ensure that client service teams comply with company policies and standards. Conduct top-level review of tax returns (T/R) and resolve all tax issues with clients. Identify material tax and compliance issues early and consult with clients and partners as needed.
- Research: Identify when research is needed, frame issues to be researched, and report analyses concisely. Identify complex issues for the engagement team to research and provide efficient research methodologies. Train managers and staff on research skills and involve company specialists as appropriate.
- ASC 740-10 (FAS 109 and FIN 48) Tax Accruals: Apply company policies and standards regarding FAS 109 and FIN 48 proactively. Help others learn and apply ASC 740-10, review tax provisions, and explain components of income tax provisions and uncertain tax positions to clients.
- Tax Consulting: Develop, recommend, and implement methods to maximize client benefits, especially by decreasing current and future taxes. Apply tax knowledge and industry knowledge to recommend solutions, involve STS specialists, monitor implementation of work plans, manage inquiries from agencies, and assist with protests at the appeals level.
- Tax Specialization: Develop an understanding of technical and practical issues in one or more areas of taxation, such as individual, corporate, property, sales, corporate, pass-through, state and local, international, expatriate, transfer pricing, credits and incentives, compensation and benefits, accounting methods, R&D tax benefits. May conduct external CPE training sessions and train/mentor managers and associates.
- Strategy Development: Develop new or improved ideas to improve clients' positions, reduce taxes or expenses, or provide non-tax benefits. Research and implement tax strategies, lead marketing campaigns, and present complex strategies to clients.
- Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise associates and senior associates on projects, review work prepared by them, provide review comments, and train them on software tools. Act as a Career Advisor, manage workload, and provide performance feedback.
Education and Experience Information:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics.
- Master’s in Accountancy or Taxation preferred.
Experience:
- Eight or more years of relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting, or consulting/professional services experience required.
- Industry expertise in one or more tax specialties preferred.
- Prior supervisory experience required.
License/Certifications:
- CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a . jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (EA) required.
- Possession of other professional degrees or certifications applicable to the role preferred.
Software:
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite preferred.
- Experience with tax research databases and tax compliance process software preferred.
