Job Title: Assistant United States Attorney (Criminal-Asset Recovery)
Job Responsibilities:
The Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) position is a crucial role within the Criminal Division - Asset Recovery Unit at the . Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Texas. The AUSA will be responsible for pursuing both criminal and civil forfeiture cases, targeting ill-gotten gains derived from federal crimes. These crimes include, but are not limited to, money laundering, organized crime, drug trafficking, fraud, corruption, immigration violations, import/export violations, and child exploitation. The primary objective is to deter crime and dismantle sophisticated criminal enterprises. Additionally, AUSAs in the Asset Recovery Unit will work to collect criminal restitution debts owed to victims of federal crimes and civil debts owed to the United States.
The position involves a fast-paced, challenging, and varied caseload with frequent courtroom appearances. The responsibilities will grow and assignments will become more complex as the AUSA gains experience and training. The role demands high-volume courtroom experience, strong legal research and writing skills, quick analytical abilities, and the capability to work efficiently in a team environment with other AUSAs, support staff, and investigative agencies.
Education and Experience Information:
To qualify for the AUSA position, applicants must possess a . Degree and be an active member of the bar in any . jurisdiction. At least one year of . legal or other relevant experience is required. United States citizenship is mandatory for this role.
Preferred qualifications include strong academic credentials, superior legal research and writing skills, quick analytical ability, high-volume courtroom experience, outstanding organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills. A demonstrated commitment to professionalism, ethics, civility, and public service is essential. Courtroom experience, including first-chair jury trials, is preferred. Additionally, successful candidates should be computer proficient and capable of conducting their own legal research and writing. Expertise in grand jury practice and experience with investigative and prosecution techniques are desirable.
Salary Information:
The salary for the Assistant United States Attorney position is administratively determined based on the number of years of professional attorney experience. The basic pay range is from $85, to $150,, which includes a 35% locality pay adjustment.
