Job Responsibilities:
The Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) will be a part of the Criminal Division in the Houston, Texas office. The primary responsibilities include prosecuting a broad spectrum of violations and enforcing federal laws, focusing on areas such as organized crime, financial litigation, immigration, drugs, firearms, public corruption, asset forfeiture, and white-collar crime. The role involves frequent courtroom appearances and managing a fast-paced and varied caseload. As an AUSA, you will contribute to furthering the Department of Justice's mission to enforce federal law, defend the interests of the United States, ensure just punishment for the guilty, and secure the impartial administration of justice.
Education and Experience Information:
- Applicants must possess a Juris Doctor (.) degree and be an active member of the bar in any . jurisdiction.
- At least one year of . legal or other relevant experience is required.
- Preferred qualifications include strong academic credentials, superior legal research and writing skills, and courtroom experience, including first-chair jury trials. Candidates with expertise in grand jury practice and experience with investigative and prosecution techniques are desirable.
Salary Information:
The salary range for the Assistant United States Attorney position is from $85,270 to $195,100 per year, which includes a 35% locality pay adjustment. The pay is determined administratively based on the number of years of professional attorney experience.
Additional Information:
- The position requires . citizenship and residency in the district or within 25 miles thereof.
- Initial appointment is conditioned upon satisfactory preemployment adjudication, which includes fingerprint, credit, tax checks, and drug testing.
- Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
- The position is a 14-month temporary appointment, with the potential for extension, pending favorable background adjudication.
