Job Title: IP Counsel 3
Job Responsibilities:
The Senior Principal IP Legal Counsel at the company is tasked with providing intellectual property legal support to the Diabetes Operating Unit. This role involves implementing global IP strategies, developing strategic IP portfolios for medical technologies, and supporting product development and research through proactive IP counseling and education. Additional responsibilities include supporting M&A activities, handling related licensing transactions, and advising R&D and business clients on various IP matters. The candidate must deliver clear, concise, and actionable legal advice, and communicate intellectual property advice effectively to management.
The role includes:
- Executing all aspects of creation and management of intellectual property.
- Preparing and prosecuting a patent portfolio worldwide to support global business and IP strategies.
- Managing invention disclosures and prioritizing filings with the highest impact.
- Supporting IP risk management for the company's pipeline, including global freedom-to-operate evaluations.
- Providing support on patent litigation, pre-suit assessments, and patent office proceedings.
- Assisting in drafting and negotiating IP agreements.
- Developing strategic relationships with operating unit leaders, marketing, business development, and R&D.
- Educating key internal stakeholders on IP activities and outcomes.
- Partnering with IP COEs (litigation, BD, trademarks, data/AI, and patent portfolio strategy) to deliver optimal outcomes.
- Modeling the company's mindset by acting boldly, competing to win, moving with speed and decisiveness, fostering belonging, and delivering results the right way.
Education and Experience Information:
- Juris Doctor (.) from a nationally accredited law school with strong academic credentials.
- 8+ years of experience as an attorney in the intellectual property law discipline.
- Licensed to practice in at least one US state or the District of Columbia.
- Registered to practice before the . Patent and Trademark Office.
Nice to Have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Chemistry, or similar scientific disciplines.
- Experience in medical devices.
- Experience in both in-house and law firm environments.
- Proficiency in engineering, strong creative abilities, and scientific principles.
- Broad IP experience, including patent prosecution, freedom-to-operate, opinion preparation, licensing, and IP transactions.
- Experience with software, algorithms, data science, and AI.
Salary Information:
The company offers a competitive salary and benefits package. The salary range for this position in the . (excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California) is between $197, and $296,. The position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the company's Incentive Plan (MIP) and an annual long-term incentive plan. The compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States, and the offered rate complies with federal and local regulations.
