Job Title: Project Privacy and Data Policy and Emerging Technologies Fellow

Job Responsibilities:
The role of a Privacy and Data Policy and Emerging Technologies Fellow involves supporting the global policy priorities and initiatives of the Centre for Information Policy Leadership (CIPL) at the law firm. The fellow will work closely with CIPL team members to research, develop strategies, and implement project plans to advance CIPL’s global policy agenda. Key areas of focus include:

- Analyzing proposed legislation and rule-making.
- Exploring developments in cutting-edge technologies and their interaction with data laws and regulations.
- Examining cross-border data flows and data localization.
- Promoting accountability-based information management and accountable AI governance best practices.
- Monitoring regional developments in data policy across Europe, the US, Canada, Latin America, India, and Asia-Pacific.
- Defining the role of corporate data protection or privacy officers and other relevant organizational data and AI governance officers.
- Conducting privacy, data, and AI risk assessment and management.
- Enhancing transparency and user control.
- Investigating privacy-preserving technologies (PPTs), data-driven innovation, data analytics, cloud computing, and data sharing between private and public sector organizations.
- Addressing children’s data, privacy, and safety.
- Developing effective and smart regulatory strategies with cross-disciplinary regulatory coordination.

Additional responsibilities include developing specific policy positions, monitoring policy, business, and technology trends, maintaining CIPL’s reputation as a thought leader, seeking collaboration opportunities with member companies and other stakeholders, drafting regulatory comments, white papers, and articles, organizing and speaking at events, and assisting with special projects.

Education and Experience Information:
Required Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: A Juris Doctor (JD) or Master’s in Public Policy or an equivalent social science or technical degree is required. A degree or equivalent qualifications related to computer science and/or other emerging technologies is strongly preferred.
- Excellent knowledge of global data and technology laws, AI regulation, and emerging technologies.
- Experience in writing white papers, public consultation responses, and articles on privacy, data, AI, and emerging tech law, policy, and governance.
- Understanding of technology trends, computer science, and/or data analytics.
- Regulatory or policy experience in competition law, online safety, and cybersecurity.
- Knowledge of additional languages is a plus.

Candidates should possess superb writing, analytical, and public speaking skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and persuasively. They should have strong research capabilities, leadership, interpersonal skills, an entrepreneurial spirit, and a proactive attitude. A strong commitment to client service excellence and teamwork is essential. Candidates must be willing to work across time zones and cultures, possess sound judgment and flexibility, and be able to work well under pressure. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications is required.

Salary Information:
The expected salary range for New York-based employees is $84,800 to $130,800, though salaries for employees based outside of New York may differ. Similarly, the expected salary range for Washington, DC-based employees is $84,800 to $130,800, with potential variations for employees based outside of Washington, DC. Salary offers may be based on factors such as education, training, and experience.
