JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Marketing and Communications Specialist is tasked with the development, distribution, and analysis of both internal and external communications for the law firm. This role also supports content-driven functions within the Marketing and Business Development Department. The specialist will create, edit, and disseminate content to targeted audiences across various platforms such as the website, intranet, email, and social media. The position requires leveraging creative and technical skills, as well as critical thinking, to align with the law firm's strategic objectives.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
REPORTS TO: The specialist reports to the Marketing Manager and collaborates closely with the Marketing Director, Chief Marketing Officer, and Director of Business Development as part of the marketing team.
SUPERVISES: This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Drafts a variety of written materials including attorney bios, press releases, survey submissions, and more for external use.
- Supports the process of writing, formatting, reviewing, approving, and distributing client alerts and other content.
- Ensures existing collateral materials are current and develops new materials as needed.
- Maintains and shares quarterly reports on the effectiveness of communication efforts and media tracking.
- Assists with the development of presentations when necessary.
- Acts as a point of contact for media inquiries and collaborates with external publications for dissemination of law firm news and events.
- Aids in pitch development and content extraction as needed.
- Provides support for events including creating invitation content and managing invitation lists.
- Supports the production and follow-up of the law firm’s webinars.
- Updates mailing lists and contact records within the email management system.
- Enforces and coordinates updates to the law firm’s style guide.
- Conducts marketing and business development research as required.
- Coordinates with team members to achieve Marketing and Business Development goals.
- Builds relationships with digital and print outlets to promote the reuse of written marketing content.
- Serves on the internal proofing team, responsible for reviewing messaging before publication.
- Identifies content areas that need review, refresh, or creation.
- Assists in adding content to the law firm’s website as needed.
- Performs additional duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
EDUCATION: An undergraduate degree is required, with a preference for degrees in Marketing, Journalism, or English.
WORK EXPERIENCE: Requires 3-5 years of experience in a communications role, with preference for experience in a law firm or professional services firm.

Requirements:
- Strong grasp of communications, public relations, marketing, and customer service principles.
- Demonstrates sound judgment, prioritization, critical thinking, attention to detail, and accountability in processes, tasks, and projects.
- Ability to work under pressure, maintain confidentiality, and prioritize competing demands.
- Responsive and deadline-driven with requests and projects.
- Proactive, independent, and capable of self-identifying tasks and knowing when to escalate issues.
- Excellent writing skills and proficiency in the English language and AP writing style.
- Ability to convey complex topics concisely and clearly using law firm style guidelines.
- Familiarity with email marketing systems and ability to maintain clean mailing lists.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign, is a plus.
- Familiarity with social media tools, media monitoring tools, media databases, and content management systems; experience with Constant Contact, JD Supra, WordPress, Agility, Hubspot, and CVENT is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills for successful internal and external interactions.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Involves manual dexterity for operating office equipment and prolonged sitting. May require walking to various areas within the office, using elevators or stairs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Typical office environment.

JOB STATUS: Full-time, exempt position. Occasional after-hours or weekend work may be required. Limited travel is expected.

The position requires full-time office attendance, five days a week, Monday through Friday. After 12 months of full-time employment, team members may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule, allowing up to two remote work days per week, subject to performance and supervisory approval per the law firm’s remote work policy.
