Job Title: Claims Manager, Construction
Job Responsibilities:
The Claims Manager, Construction is responsible for overseeing a team of Senior Claims Examiners and Claims Examiners II in handling a variety of low to moderately high exposure construction defect and construction property damage liability claims, both primary and excess. The incumbent will report to the Director of Construction claims and is accountable for conveying the organization's objectives and priorities to the staff while measuring progress towards established goals. Key responsibilities include:
- Confirming coverage of claims by reviewing policies and documents submitted in support of claims.
- Directing and monitoring the assignment of new loss activity for construction defect and construction property damage liability claims.
- Reviewing and approving correspondence and reports, including coverage position letters and Large Loss Reports.
- Reviewing and approving reserves and settlements that exceed the authority of the handling specialist.
- Making recommendations concerning reserve changes to the Director or Senior Management.
- Participating in the review and discussion of large loss activity in the construction book with stakeholders such as Underwriting, Actuarial, and Executive Management.
- Ensuring that the team adheres to Fair Claims Practices regulations and internal performance objectives.
- Assessing and evaluating individual specialist and team performance, providing feedback, and developing training needs.
- Preparing and distributing reports by collecting and summarizing information.
- Assisting in the preparation of budgets, evaluating expenses, and assessing resource needs.
- Fostering and encouraging strong relationships with internal stakeholders like Underwriting and Actuarial departments.
- Promoting and enhancing strong relationships with customers and channel partners.
- Participating in special projects as requested.
- Traveling to other claim offices, mediations, trials, and conferences as required.
Education:
The position requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience. A JD, advanced degree, or focused technical degree is considered a plus.
Certification:
The candidate must have or be eligible to receive a claims adjuster license. Successful achievement of industry designations such as INS, IEA, AIC, ARM, SCLA, CPCU, or I-Lead or other Management Training is preferred.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 10 years of claims handling experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Successful completion of 5 years as a Senior Claims Specialist or Executive Claims Specialist is a plus.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong organization and time management skills.
- Ability to deliver outstanding customer service.
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word).
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Strong desire for continuous improvement.
Salary Information:
The base salary for this position ranges from $90,500 to $150,900, with a 25% bonus potential. The salary offered will be based on compensable factors such as job-relevant education, job-relevant experience, training, licensure, demonstrated competencies, geographic location, and other factors.
