Job Title: Legal Secretary/Paralegal
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide administrative support to one or more lawyers to ensure smooth office operations and effective case management.
- Communicate effectively with witnesses, clients, colleagues, and partners to facilitate legal processes.
- Greet visitors and conduct initial client screenings to ascertain their needs and direct them appropriately.
- Attend trials and accurately type minutes to maintain comprehensive records of proceedings.
- Write case briefs and synopses of depositions, contracts, and testimony to assist in case preparation and strategy.
- Conduct thorough statistical and documentary research to support legal cases and strategies.
- Source and verify important case intelligence to ensure accuracy and reliability of information.
- Produce and file various legal documents, including appeals, motions, and petitions, ensuring compliance with legal standards and deadlines.
- Maintain an updated case record system for efficient retrieval and management of case documents.
- Answer phone calls, take notes/messages, and redirect calls appropriately to ensure effective communication within the office.
- Maintain and update inventories of contact details to support communication and networking efforts.
- Facilitate the meeting of deadlines by managing multiple agendas and providing timely reminders to relevant parties.
Education and Experience Information:
- Proven experience as a legal secretary is required, demonstrating familiarity with legal procedures and office management.
- Knowledge of the constitution, legal terminology, regulations, and court system is essential for effective performance in this role.
- Proficiency in MS Office and ability to work with legal technology, such as court-filing computer systems, transcription software, and dictaphone, is necessary.
- Experience with litigation management software systems is a plus, enhancing the ability to manage complex legal cases.
- Proficiency in English is required for effective communication and documentation.
- Outstanding time-management and typing skills are necessary to handle multiple tasks and deadlines efficiently.
- Ability to multitask and comfort in dealing with a diverse pool of people are essential for successful performance.
- Legal Secretary certification or diploma is preferred, indicating formal training in relevant skills and knowledge.
Salary Information:
