Patent Litigation Coordination Paralegal
Job Responsibilities:
The Patent Litigation Coordination Paralegal is responsible for assisting in-house Patent Litigators in all traditional aspects of case development and management within the company. This includes oversight and project management of case files and logistics of patent litigation from pre-complaint through appeal. The paralegal will assist with all stages of litigation, including witness interviews, document collections, reviewing and summarizing documents, and managing document management systems in coordination with litigation support. Additional duties involve retrieving patents, prior art, and file histories, maintaining confidentiality, and handling sensitive information professionally. The role also encompasses managing all aspects of eDiscovery/document processes, including collection, tracking, and quality control with minimal supervision. The paralegal will assist in the management and preparation of document productions, utilizing third-party tools for searching, data promotion, export, and reporting. Maintaining accurate and up-to-date case files, managing the court docket calendar, and providing case status updates are also essential responsibilities. The role requires strong organizational, time-management, investigative, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Additionally, the paralegal will assist the VP, Intellectual Property, Head of Patent Litigation, with budgeting and creating reports for Finance.
Education and Experience Information:
Basic Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree.
- 5+ years of practical experience as a litigation paralegal/project manager.
- Understanding and experience with electronic filings and familiarity with Federal and Local court rules.
- Significant experience with litigation document review databases, case management databases, and e-discovery software.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Good written communication, organizational, and computer skills.
- Good interpersonal and verbal skills required.
- Ability to function within a team-based organization.
- Ability to prioritize and decide appropriate courses of action, and effectiveness at implementing decisions.
- Experience in Hatch-Waxman/ANDA/BPCIA litigation is strongly desired.
- Familiarity with legal engagements, budget management, and reporting.
- Experience with common legal research platforms such as Westlaw and Lexis.
- Experience with United States Patent and Trademark Office Post Grant Proceedings and/or International Trade Commission 337 Investigations is a plus.
