Job Title: Deputy County Attorney

Job Responsibilities:
The Deputy County Attorney is responsible for providing professional legal services to the various departments, units, and boards of the organization. The role requires independent work under limited supervision, with major activities reported through periodic meetings. Key responsibilities include:

- Coordinating, reviewing, and monitoring the progress of work, inspecting completed assignments, providing answers, advice, direction, and supervision to staff as needed or requested by the County Attorney.
- Offering legal counsel and representation to all organization departments in civil litigation and administrative proceedings.
- Attending and presenting at organization Council meetings, Committee meetings, and Boards and Commissions’ meetings, providing legal advice as needed or requested by the County Attorney.
- Delivering legal training to clients within organization departments and Boards and Commissions.
- Providing daily legal advice to all officers, departments, and agencies of the organization.
- Preparing cases for trial, interviewing witnesses, and examining law and evidence.
- Representing the organization in trial and appellate litigation, handling complex legal issues as necessary.
- Drafting and reviewing ordinances, resolutions, proposed legislation, contracts, deeds, leases, releases, franchises, and other legal documents.
- Conducting legal research and preparing legal documents.
- Ensuring appropriate dissemination and storage of information related to cases.
- Advising paralegals and clerical/administrative personnel.
- Performing related work as assigned.

Education and Experience Information:
The position requires a Juris Doctorate degree. Candidates should have over three years and up to five years of experience in municipal law or a related field. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may also be considered.

Special Certifications and Licenses:
Candidates must have the ability to practice law in the state of South Carolina. Additionally, they must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.

The salary for this position depends on qualifications.
