Job Title: Conflicts Attorney
Job Responsibilities:
The Conflicts Attorney is tasked with identifying and resolving potential legal and business conflicts to ensure adherence to law firm policies and procedures in various areas such as client intake, new hires, and firm growth opportunities. Key responsibilities include:
- Comprehensive knowledge and application of ethical, legal, and risk management principles.
- Understanding and managing law firm conflict clearance and business intake procedures, including business organization structures.
- Conducting analysis and critical assessment of due diligence to identify, report, and address potential ethical and business conflicts of interest, as well as client worthiness issues related to new firm business, firm growth opportunities, and newly hired personnel.
- Engaging proactively with attorneys, staff, and team members to gather information and work towards resolving conflicts of interest or other business issues.
- Assisting in drafting and reviewing conflict waivers, engagement letters, outside counsel agreements, and other documents to ensure compliance with ethical rules and law firm policies and standards.
- Maintaining accurate records and tracking systems to ensure effective information sharing, proactive follow-up, and timely documentation of the conflict clearance process in firm databases.
- Collaborating with team members and other personnel to ensure quality due diligence screening is completed in a responsive and client service-oriented manner.
- Assisting firm personnel in understanding the firm’s conflicts and new business intake policies and procedures.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Information:
To perform this job successfully, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- 4-6 years of legal experience, preferably within a law firm environment.
- Must be an active member in good standing in a state bar.
- Juris Doctor Degree is required.
Candidates should possess exceptional analytical, decisive, and critical thinking skills, along with the ability to communicate concise, timely, accurate, and logical conclusions and recommendations based on analyzing data with varied content and format. They must demonstrate excellent project management and organizational skills, the ability to work effectively with minimal supervision, and the capacity to handle multiple projects, shifting priorities, and tight deadlines. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential, as is the ability to converse authoritatively with personnel at all levels. Additionally, candidates should have strong research, computer, and database skills, and a proven aptitude for quickly learning new applications. Providing outstanding customer service and interacting collegially is also required.
Salary Information:
In accordance with applicable Federal and State laws, the anticipated annual salary range for the Conflicts Attorney position, depending on location, is as follows:
- Rochester, NY: $107,000 to $158,950
- Albany, NY: $107,000 to $158,950
- Providence, RI: $107,000 to $158,950
- Chicago, IL: $118,000 to $174,900
- Washington, DC: $118,000 to $174,900
- Boston, MA: $118,000 to $174,900
- Los Angeles, CA: $118,000 to $174,900
In addition to a standard benefits package, this role may be eligible for additional contingent compensation based on various factors, including work performance, geographic location, work experience, education, and qualifications. Such contingent compensation is not yet calculable and may be zero ($0) in some circumstances. The above-listed salary ranges are the law firm’s good faith estimate of the annual salary it reasonably expects to pay for the position at the time of this posting.
