Job Responsibilities

The Staff Attorney/Agency Attorney III at the **Members Only** in the Hearing Division is responsible for a variety of legal and administrative tasks aimed at ensuring efficient and fair adjudication of administrative hearings. Key responsibilities include:

- Adjudicating all types of administrative hearings.
- Assisting in directing the legal operations of the office, ensuring the quality and consistency of all legal decisions rendered.
- Coordinating daily assignments of Judicial Hearing Officers and performing legal review and other administrative duties.
- Maintaining procedures to ensure cases are heard and decisions are rendered in a timely manner.
- Managing productivity, timeliness, and staffing needs through effective use of databases or other systems.
- Handling special assignments and projects, which may include oral and/or written presentations.
- Accurately conveying agency policy to the public.
- Ensuring cooperative interaction between the office’s administrative and legal personnel.
- Acting as a legal advisor to the office's administrative personnel.

Education and Experience Information

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Admission to the New York State Bar.
2. One year of satisfactory United States legal experience subsequent to admission to any state bar; or
3. Six months of satisfactory service as an Agency Attorney Interne (30086).

Incumbents must remain Members of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of this employment.

For assignment to different levels within the position:

- Assignment Level (AL) II: Requires one year of experience at Assignment Level I or two years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment.
- AL III: Requires two years of experience in Assignment Levels I and/or II or three years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment.

Preferred Skills:

- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
- Excellent writing, legal research, and analytical skills.
- Strong organizational, management, and training skills.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Access, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Salary Information

Salary range for the position is $92, – $106,.
