Job Responsibilities
The legal assistant/paralegal at the law firm will be responsible for a variety of tasks that support the operations of the firm and its representation of local governments. The key duties associated with this position include:
- Managing mail and case files.
- Scheduling meetings and managing calendars, including docketing litigation and other deadlines.
- Drafting, proofreading, editing, and finalizing legal documents, pleadings, correspondence, and reports.
- Assisting with discovery responses, including the review and preparation of documents for production.
- Assisting with document collection through authorizations, subpoenas, public records requests, or online searches.
- Corresponding with clients, outside counsel, and court personnel.
- Researching case law, statutes, and administrative rules.
- Preparing spreadsheets and presentations.
- Tracking and entering billable time into accounting software.
- Assisting with technical issues and performing other clerical and administrative duties as requested by the Office Manager and attorneys.
Education and Experience Information
Candidates for this position should have the following qualifications:
- A minimum of three years of full-time legal experience.
- Familiarity with document management systems, billing software, and legal databases.
- Knowledge of state and local rules, including the filing of pleadings in circuit court and state appellate courts.
- Proficiency in Adobe and Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), including skills in Word formatting, redline/track changes, styles, and cross-referencing within documents.
Salary Information
The salary for the legal assistant/paralegal position at the law firm ranges from $55,000 to $75,000 per year, as provided by the employer.
