Title: Assistant District Attorney (Fall Class 2025)

Job Responsibilities:
The role of an entry-level Assistant District Attorney (ADA) involves the organized management of an active criminal case docket. Key responsibilities include:

- Preparing and filing pleadings, handling discovery, and briefing and arguing motions.
- Conducting witness preparation, grand jury presentations, hearings, and trials.
- Evaluating cases to formulate and negotiate appropriate dispositions.
- Conferencing cases with defense counsel and judges.
- Making court appearances pertaining to all phases of litigation.
- Investigating cases using various types of legal processes such as subpoenas, court orders, search warrants, and eavesdropping warrants.
- Collaborating with the Nassau County Police Department and local police departments, as well as a variety of local, state, and federal law enforcement partners.

Education and Experience Information:
Candidates must meet the following qualifications and requirements:

- Strong academic credentials.
- A demonstrated commitment to public service and criminal law, which may include participation in Moot Court/Mock Trial, trial advocacy, and/or clinical programs.
- Excellent verbal, writing, and critical thinking skills.
- Leadership abilities, including confidence, integrity and ethics, motivation to achieve, and time management skills.
- Maturity, demonstrated through empathy, good judgment, and a strong work ethic.
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Prior to the effective date of employment, candidates must have either:
1. Passed the New York State Bar Examination and be awaiting admission to the New York State Bar.
2. Be admitted to the practice of law in New York State, in good standing.
3. If a recent law school graduate, must sit for the first available Uniform Bar Examination (UBE) after graduation.
- Reside in New York State.
- Be a . citizen, as required by Public Officer's Law §3(1).

The selection process for the Fall class is highly competitive, involving three rounds of interviews:

1. Initial Interview with a senior-level Assistant District Attorney from the Hiring Committee.
2. Panel Interview with two or more supervisory Assistant District Attorneys from the Hiring Committee.
3. District Attorney Interview with the District Attorney and the Chief Assistant District Attorney.

Salary Information:
The starting annual salary for non-admitted attorneys is $80,000. Upon admission to the bar, the annual salary is increased to $85,000.
