Job Responsibilities:
The role of an Assistant District Attorney (ADA) in the Litigation Division at the organization involves managing an active criminal caseload. The responsibilities include preparing and filing legal pleadings, handling discovery processes, and briefing and arguing motions. ADAs are expected to conduct witness preparation, present cases to grand juries, and handle hearings and trials. They must evaluate cases to formulate and negotiate appropriate dispositions and conference cases with defense counsel and judges. Making court appearances related to all phases of litigation is a key aspect of the job. Additionally, ADAs collaborate with the Nassau County Police Department and other local, state, and federal law enforcement partners.
Education and Experience Information:
Candidates for this position must have passed the New York State Bar Examination and be admitted to practice law in New York State in good standing before submitting an application. They must reside in New York State as of the effective date of employment with the organization. A minimum of five years of experience in handling all aspects of criminal investigation and prosecution is required, including significant grand jury and felony jury trial experience. Candidates should possess exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, strong organizational and analytical abilities, and must commit to a two-year employment period with the organization.
Salary Information:
The annual salary for this position ranges from $93,000 to $163,000.
