Job Title: Insurance Defense Staff Attorney
Job Responsibilities:
As an Insurance Defense Staff Attorney at the company, you will be responsible for representing policyholders in moderately complex civil litigation matters. Your duties will involve managing the entire legal process, including investigation, discovery, trial preparation, and court proceedings. This includes representing clients in depositions, site inspections, court hearings, and trials, as well as negotiating settlements when required. As a strategic partner, you will research applicable laws and develop appropriate legal strategies for all stages of litigation, sharing these strategies with claims representatives and insured clients. You will establish and maintain good relationships with claims representatives and insured clients and may conduct training sessions for legal, claims, or other departments. Additionally, you will be tasked with developing and rendering clear, unambiguous legal opinions and strategies and drafting legal documents such as pleadings and motions. As a collaborative mentor, you will provide guidance and direction to junior attorneys, paralegals, or law clerks and have opportunities to interact and collaborate with the Home Office Legal department.
Education and Experience Information:
To qualify for the position of Insurance Defense Staff Attorney, candidates must possess a JD degree and membership in the California Bar. While appropriate special licenses to practice before boards or federal courts are preferred, they are not mandatory. Candidates should have a minimum of three years of successful experience conducting discovery, depositions, oral arguments, mediations, arbitrations, hearings, and trials. Experience representing insurance companies is also required.

Salary Information:
The position of Insurance Defense Staff Attorney offers a salary range between USD $94, and USD $161, annually. The typical starting salary for this role ranges from $100,000 to $116,000. The salary range is determined by various factors, including skills, experience, education, certifications, and location. The company offers a flexible time-off annual accrual of 20 days. Additionally, some roles at the company have a corresponding compensation plan that may include commission and/or bonus earnings, which vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
