Job Title: Child Services Attorney
Job Responsibilities:
The Child Services Attorney provides legal guidance and services for the Department of Child Services' central and county offices. Responsibilities include advising department staff on various programs and legal areas, representing the State in Child in Need of Service (CHINS) cases, Termination of Parental Rights (TPR), adoptions, foster care licensing, and other legal issues related to child safety. Additional duties involve drafting and reviewing contracts, serving as a liaison to the Attorney General on litigation and tort claims, drafting and reviewing legislation, performing legal research, providing general legal support for the Office of General Counsel, overseeing the contract process for local office attorneys, conducting legal training, litigating CHINS and TPR cases in State Court, handling administrative matters, organizing and managing caseloads, generating legal documents, delegating tasks to legal support staff, drafting appeals and appellate briefs, and possibly participating in committees or serving as local counsel.
Education and Experience Information:
Candidates must hold a Doctorate of Jurisprudence and have Indiana Bar Admission with a license in good standing. Alternatively, admission to the bar of any state within the United States with a license in good standing is acceptable, with the willingness to obtain temporary foreign license status under the conditions and limitations of rule of the Indiana Rules for Admissions to the Bar and the Discipline of Attorneys pending admission to the Indiana Bar. Candidates should possess strong legal research, writing, and litigation skills, as well as strong communication and public speaking skills. Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply relevant statutes, case law, and rules are essential.
Salary Information:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $75,010 annually but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
