Job Responsibilities:
Law clerks at the organization will have the opportunity to engage in a variety of legal tasks under the supervision of staff attorneys. Their responsibilities include conducting client interviews and initial case assessments, preparing clients for trials, obtaining discovery and other evidence, and writing briefs and other legal memoranda. Clerks will participate in community outreach and education, assist self-represented litigants, represent clients at administrative hearings and state court hearings/trials, and participate in broader impact litigation. Additionally, they will draft writs of mandamus to Superior Court and California appellate court. Law clerks will also have the chance to assist in specific legal areas such as consumer protection, economic justice, family law for domestic violence survivors, health access, housing preservation, immigration advocacy, individualized legal support services, reentry, medical legal partnership, and youth justice.

Education and Experience Information:
Candidates must have completed the first year of law school. Applicants should have a passion for social justice and poverty-related issues, along with a sensitivity to working with people from diverse backgrounds. The organization encourages students who have completed the required Evidence Course to become certified by the California State Bar to represent clients in court. Proficiency in languages such as Spanish, Cantonese, Russian, Vietnamese, or other Southeast Asian languages is encouraged.
