Job Title: Paralegal Faculty

Job Responsibilities:
- Develop and construct a course syllabus that aligns with the generic course syllabus, ensuring it includes course objectives, content, and grading criteria.
- Prepare course presentations and instructional materials suitable for lectures, as well as laboratory and clinical functions when applicable.
- Deliver instruction effectively, ensuring preparedness and punctuality for scheduled courses and laboratories.
- Engage in consultation with students and evaluate their performance.
- Maintain clear and accurate records of student performance, attendance, and other factors relevant to grading.
- Adhere to departmental and institutional policies and procedures, including the submission of midterm and final grades, maintaining office hours, and making instructional decisions about texts, assignments, and grading standards.
- Comply with institutional procedures and the provisions of the OCCFA contract.

Education and Experience Information:
- Required Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree with three years of experience as a practicing paralegal.
- Preferred Qualifications: College teaching experience is advantageous. Additionally, a license to practice law in the state of Illinois and experience working with paralegals, or possession of a Juris Doctorate degree with experience working with paralegals, is preferred.

Salary Information:
- Part-time faculty are compensated on a lecture hour equivalents (LHE) basis. For most courses, the LHE is equivalent to a credit hour. However, for courses requiring additional work, such as grading papers for Composition classes or courses with a laboratory section (., computers, languages, and sciences), the LHE is higher than the credit hour.
- All part-time faculty start at the beginning pay rates, regardless of previous experience. For the 2024-25 academic year, the rates are $1191 per LHE for faculty without doctorates and $1262 per LHE for faculty with doctorates.
- Part-time faculty advance one step within the salary schedule after successfully completing 2 fall and spring semesters with 3 or more LHEs taught in each semester.
- Part-time faculty are hired on a semester-by-semester basis, with a reasonable effort made to assign courses to more senior part-time faculty who are fully qualified and have a history of successful performance at the reputed firm.

Additional Information:
- Assignments are contingent upon sufficient enrollment, and once a course begins, the part-time faculty member is expected to complete the course.
- The reputed firm is accessible by public transportation.
