Job Title: Official Court Reporter
Job Responsibilities:
The Official Court Reporter for the Second Judicial District, Kenosha County Circuit Court, Branch 8, is responsible for accurately capturing the spoken word during court proceedings and producing verbatim written transcripts. The role involves operating stenographic or digital audio recording equipment, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of the court record, and transcribing legal proceedings for further use by the court and legal parties. The reporter must also manage and maintain the necessary equipment and software to perform these tasks efficiently.
Education and Experience Information:
Candidates applying for the position of Official Court Reporter must meet specific professional standards. These include:
1. Stenographer/Voice Writer Court Reporter Requirements:
- Graduation from a court reporting school approved by the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA) or the National Verbatim Reporters Association (NVRA).
- Successful completion of the Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) examination administered by the NCRA.
- Successful completion of the Certified Verbatim Reporter (CVR) examination administered by the NVRA.
2. Digital Court Reporter Requirements:
- Training and/or experience in legal terminology and procedures.
- Courses and/or experience in legal/court administrative and recordkeeping practices, such as paralegal or legal secretary roles.
- Demonstrated skills in English grammar, spelling, composition, and punctuation.
- Experience in a court or legal setting.
- Ability to operate digital audio recording equipment, produce recordings suitable for transcription, and transcribe the record.
Preferred Qualifications for Digital Court Reporters:
- Certified Electronic Reporter and Transcriber certification from the American Association of Electronic Reporters and Transcribers or equivalent.
- Work experience as a digital court reporter.
Special Requirements:
- Employment for this position will require a criminal background check.
- The Wisconsin Court System does not sponsor work visas, and candidates must comply with federal law requirements to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States.
- Candidates must complete the required employment eligibility form upon hire.
Salary Information:
The position offers a competitive annual salary in the range of $50,606 to $70,137. In addition to the salary, there is potential income from transcript fees and a benefits package provided by the State of Wisconsin. The salary will be determined based on the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience.
