Job Title: Senior Trusts & Estates Tax Paralegal
Job Responsibilities:
The Senior Trusts & Estates Tax Paralegal is responsible for providing comprehensive support to the law firm's attorneys in various aspects of estate administration. This role involves a range of duties including preparing essential documents and tax returns, managing client cases, and ensuring proper funding and administration of post-death irrevocable trusts. Key responsibilities include:
- Preparing Estate Tax Returns and Fiduciary Income Tax Returns to ensure compliance with relevant tax regulations.
- Maintaining financial records of trusts, performing trust accounting, and auditing accounts to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Managing G/L accounts, reconciling broker statements, and preparing payables and bank deposits.
- Obtaining and reconciling 1099 and K-1 statements for accurate financial reporting.
- Administering probate, including drafting probate pleadings and managing the probate process.
- Maintaining close personal contact with clients and financial advisors to provide exceptional service and maintain strong relationships.
- Meeting an annual billable hour requirement of 1600 hours to contribute to the firm's productivity goals.
- Developing technical proficiency in database use and management, internet and electronic research, and project folder/electronic file maintenance to enhance efficiency.
- Organizing and managing files independently or delegating similar tasks to appropriate business professionals and supervising the same.
- Complying with firm policies and maintaining a high standard of attention to detail and quality of work.
Education and Experience Information:
The position requires a minimum of a two-year degree, with a bachelor's degree or a Paralegal Certificate from an ABA-approved program preferred. However, significant and substantive related experience may be considered in lieu of formal education. The ideal candidate should have:
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in Trusts & Estates, which is preferred for this senior role.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills to effectively manage complex tasks and interact with clients and team members.
- Proven success working in a fast-paced, continually changing environment, demonstrating adaptability and resilience.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with tax and trust accounting software.
- Experience with document database programs and/or software to manage large volumes of information efficiently.
- Significant client case management experience to ensure the effective handling of client needs and expectations.
- Exceptional attention to detail to maintain accuracy in all aspects of work.
- Ability to interact effectively and professionally, providing exceptional service internally and externally at all times.
- High organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize workflow and manage projects effectively.
- Ability to perform effectively with little or no supervision while adhering to established time limits and ongoing deadlines.
