- Manages a full claim workload with minimal assistance and makes sound decisions within delegated authority

- Analyzes coverage and communicates coverage positions, conducts investigations, and confirms coverage of claims
- Evaluates information on coverage, liability, and damages to determine insured's exposure
- Handles litigated bodily injury claims and identifies losses for SIU involvement
- Monitors potential exposures in excess or reinsurance business and participates in special projects or trainings as needed
- Provides excellent customer service and represents Markel in mediations and trials
- Sets reserves and collaborates with internal stakeholders
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required, JD or advanced degree a plus
- Must have or be eligible to receive claims adjuster license and industry designations or training
- 7-15 years of claims handling experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in insurance
- Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Strong organization, time management, and negotiation skills
- Experience with mediations, arbitrations, and monitoring trials on higher value complex claims
- Ability to influence and direct claims strategy and manage vendors
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office products and ability to work in a team environment
- Desire for continuous improvement and providing outstanding customer service
- Hybrid working schedule with 3 days in the office and 2 days remote
- US work authorization required, no visa sponsorship provided

Salary Information: The national average salary for the Sr. Claims Examiner is $83,600 - $110,760 with 15% bonus potential.
