Counsel - Austin / San Antonio, TX (Remote)
Job Responsibilities:
The Counsel position at the company involves defending lawsuits filed in Texas courts and other first-party insurance defense. Key responsibilities include:
- Researching laws and preparing legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda.
- Rendering opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department.
- Preparing and handling pleadings, motions, and discovery, including depositions/examinations before trial and examinations under oath.
- Defending by trial or dispositive hearing all matters assigned, as applicable.
Education and Experience Information:
- 7-9+ years of related field litigation experience in insurance defense and/or personal injury is required.
- A Juris Doctor degree is required.
- Admission to the Texas Bar is required.
- The candidate must be licensed in good standing to practice law in Texas and meet and maintain licensing requirements, including mandatory Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements where applicable.
- The candidate must be able to travel as required, including attending trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences.
- The candidate must be able to document files in a clear, concise, professional written manner, to be understood by customers, clients, co-workers, and other employees of the organization.
- The candidate must be able to follow complex instructions, resolve conflicts or facilitate conflict resolution, and have strong organization/priority setting and multi-tasking skills.
- The candidate must be able to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Civil litigation experience.
- Insurance defense-related litigation experience.
- The candidate must be able to communicate in a professional manner in person, via telephone, and written correspondence/email.
Salary Information:
The annual salary for the Counsel position ranges from $118, to $185,. This range is a general guideline, and multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/annual salary offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location, as well as market and business considerations.
Additional Information:
The position is remote but requires the candidate to be within a commutable distance from either Austin or San Antonio site location. The company will not sponsor a new applicant for employment authorization for this position.
